The bad news - the stock Kawasaki KLR 650 master cylinder/brake pedal mount is very weak and the forged brake pedal is very strong (an unfortunate combination). The OEM bracket is a porous low grade aluminum casting and out of tolerance. A simple fall on the right side or any good impact to the brake pedal can result in a fracture or complete break, either thru the lower mounting hole (photo 1) or just below it (photo 2). Uh oh. This renders the rear brake completely useless and is nearly impossible to fix in the field! We've seen this many times as this problem has plagued KLR 650 "A" models since their first release in 1987. The good news - you can replace it quickly and easily with our Billet Brake Bracket, beautifully CNC machined from solid 6061 T6 aircraft aluminum. We’ve added extra material where it counts and anodized it for corrosion resistance. So, we ask you - why take a chance? While you are at it, we highly recommend installing one of our slick MasterGuards™ shown below.
